I'm sorry about your bike! That sucks. And I'm guessing (from the Pee Wee reference) that you're quality people-and don't deserve that kind of thing. I hope you get it back. Neil Gaiman sicced all of Chicago on them!
I think the worst thing about my bike being stolen was that someone made the choice to take it. They will sell it fir parts or scrap or whatever and pocket the cash and move o. To the next victim. It was my major way to get lots of places in Chicago and I felt trapped and isolated with it gone. It’s a rotten feeling.
What is even more discouraging is going on the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry and seeing how many thousands of bikes are stolen in this city…and from where! So many posts listed ‘basement of apartment, garage, apartment storage space or laundry room”… Or “in front of Target, restaurant, etc.” nowhere is safe!
Makes me hate on people!
I marvel at places like Copenhagen and Reggio Emilia where I see so many people ride bikes and leave them outside of shops or restaurants without being locked to anything other than their own tires…I went to buy a new bike and lock the other day and was dismayed to see a 20 lb Kryptonite U lock! Who wants to carry that much extra weight around? And WHERE do you put it? Ugh!! Thieves, I hate you and you suck the most!!
Hopefully I will see my old flower bike one day! Thankfully, the next generation of flower bike lives on, thanks to Brian Azzarello.
It is hard to carry up three flights of stairs, though.
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna careen down the stairs trying to put it somewhere safe.
So, maybe folks should invest in some of my original art, in case I kill myself trying to protect my bike.
Hi Jill!! Ok I feel SUPER STUPID that I only just now realized you have a tumblr bc you are such a HUGE inspiration to me! Magic Trixie and Scary Godmother really changed the way I looked at art, illustration, characters and comics, and really influence me as I work on my own project. You're also just inspirational as a person in general. Thank you so much for all that you do! (also, wow, I'm so sorry about your bike, that is outrageous and horrible)
It’s always fun posting or reposting cool photos! I try to keep this Tumblr full of stuff that inspires me, makes me laugh, makes me think…and includes some of my art and fun photos I take. There might also be social posts of great import that i feel need reading… I’m glad you enjoy it!
Once my life gets less crazy I’ll post some more of my art!
How tall is the Scary Godmother doll going to be? The kickstarter said she'd be taller than Barbie, but I didn't see a specific measurement or scale mentioned. Is it fair to guess she'd be around 1:4 scale or 16-inches? I'll love her just the same, no matter what size she is. I've just been curious about the details for a long time. Thank you for your help and for making such a wonderful character and doll!
She’s set to be about 13 inches. There’s a photo of her next to a Barbie on the Kickstarter. So, Scary Godmother will not be able to borrow her clothes.
Hey Jill, I wanted to thank you (or SG) for the letter and the iron-on patches we received earlier this week. They made Elliot's day and he promises he's going to share them. I hope you don't mind, but I did a little Tumblr post about the experience and why Scary Godmother means so much to Elliot right now. If you have a moment, take a look. Thanks again!
I’m so glad Elliot liked the patches, it was terrific meeting him! He’s a doll and he knows how to do the Dr. Strange ‘magic’ finger gestures. Not as rude as it sounds!
I’ll go check out your blog post right away!
